Post #5, Deconstruction/Reinventions

My deconstruction/reinventions of the words are basically two words with very contrasting meaning. The first word is "History" vs the other word "Technology", i chose these 2 words as i want to find a balance between a very old thing and a very advance thing. By exploring theses 2 words i came out with 3 business combinations and they are

1. People App Business
   This business will help random people to connect with each other, very much like the concept of Facebook or Instagram. I'm thinking about a business idea where students from college level can make extra cash by writing biography about other people. Many at times, people do not speak very much about their lifes to their families or friends. As Candy chang's video (Before i die) mentionéd, life is too tender and fragile, sometimes we left too much regrets and ourstories are untold to our love ones. I hope to build an app where people can approach college students to write about their lives in book or diary form. The biography written will either be kept secret or open, this will depend on the customer needs. The amount will be charged by pages completed and customers can recommend the student writers if they find them trustworthy and good.
2. Apple Festival Business
   This idea may be an out of blue one as when i think of the word Apple from technology, i was thinking about the brand and not the real apple. But it fits perfectly with the word "festival"that i explored from History. This Apple festival Business can be an annual festival where i invite all famous Apple growers from the world to showcase their apple product in it.
3. Fast Drinks Business
   This can be an every day business where i sell drinks that are prepared easily such as Bubble Tea or Coffee to customers.

This is an empty carpark near my neighbourhood and it is mostly used for beginner driving lessons and not many cars are parked here as it is not a residential area. However, this carpark is situated very near to the National stadium of Singapore and during events, it can attract a lot of people to pass by this area and leave their comments as Candy Chang's TED Video (Before i die). I can suggest this place to be used as

1.  Build an practice area for Extreme sports such as Skateboarding and Biking.
2. An art gallery for talented individuals to showcase their works.
3. Build a street market for people to self BBQ and hangout.

Post #3, Business Idea with Character

I chose the comic Slamdunk as my storyboard as it is a very inspiring comic book. The main character overcame adversities in his life and conquer all fears to help his team to win the regional Basketball title.

The six potential business idea i can draw from the storyboard are

1. Social Counseling Business
2. Keep Fit Business
3. Blocking negativity Business
4. Group gathering Business
5. Encourage positivity Business
6. Documentary writing Business

Post #2, Mind map that reflects your purpose, passions and gifts

In summary, i want help others to succeed and have a better life for themselves. My purpose is to be open minded and embrace every culture with an open heart. This is particularly important as my country is a multicultural society with different races living in harmony. I want to create a company where everyone from all walks of live can make a positive impact to the society. My gifts are reliable and thoughtful. This makes me a person who is willing to understand and listen to other people's problems, and hopefully i will help others to find their life goals and purpose as well. Lastly, my passion is in sport and understanding different culture. I hope my business will be revolved around these 2 areas. For now, i can think of a business idea which i can create a digital app and it helps people to write biographies about other people. I find that sometimes we are just living our lives without telling our families about our lives. People do not have to be successful in order to have a biography about themselves.

Post #1 Entrepreneur Profile Assignment

My top 5 UN Sustianable Development Goals (SDG) are

1. Decent work and Economic Growth.
   I feel this goal is the most important because it allows people to benefit make a living based on their own hardwork and helping to build a progressive society. In the old Chinese saying says "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime", to help a person acquiring a life skill can help them to live independently and give back the rewards to society again. I strongly believe this goal is attainable if every entrepreneur cares for their employees and be willing to invest in their employees
2. No poverty
   This is another important goal as 9.6% of the world population is still living under Poverty according to a report publish by the UN in 2015. The defination of poverty can be classified as people who live are living below USD$1,90 a day. In the modern world that we are living today, it is hard to imagine living on $1,90 a day. Hence, i believe this is an important goal we need to eradicate and through creating jobs and teaching others a life skill, poverty can surely be eradicated.
   
3. Responsible consumption and production.
   As the world is getting increasingly polluted and growing wastage from a capitalist system. This problem is worrying and i believe we need to look into this carefully to make this world a sustainable place for us and for our future. In a report publish by UNEP, it states that "Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year approximately 1.3 billion tonnes gets lost or wasted", this amount is worrying. If we can create a system which can better allocates resources during production and every citizen does their part. This goal can be within reached. So as a social entrepreneur, we can help to solve this by considering this point when making business decisions.
4. Quality Education
   To have a better future, we need to invest more on the young as they are the future leaders of this world. Hence, quality education is an important goal that social entrepreneurs have to focus on. Through better allocating teaching resources and creating an environment of learning, This goal can be attained.
   
5. Affordable and clean Energy
   This is another important goal which can make the world a much more sustainable place as right now we are depleting our natural supplies such as water, minerals and crude oil. Many countries have already start building so called "smart cities" such as using big data to determine the efficient supply of trains of buses to run on the road. Creating more opportunities to reducing wastage. Water Dams and wind turbines can create more clean energy if we start to look into this.

A changing is the choice brand for for quality apparel alterations. What is admirable about this company, is that they provide training and employment opportunities to women in need and it doesn’t stop there. With flexible working hours in place, the company is able to arrange flexible working schedules for ease and better work life balance.

And this system has been favourable not just for the workers but the employers as well. A changing is also committed to skills upgrading and training opportunities to help boost their income. Today the company employs 25 staffs. 25 empowered women. 

Presentation from classmate

I recalled Shiori's presentation of Adrienne Tan, who is a social entrepreneur from Indonesia and helps in the educating the  poor children in India. I found her very admirable as she gave up her job to create schools in India that will help children in receiving a better education and break away from the poor cycle. This set me thinking that in order to create employment for people, it has to start at an early stage where children have a life goal to look up to and to pursue in the things they like. And education plays an important role in this so this has inspired me to look at things from a different perspective.
